REXDALE, Ont. - After leading the Bruins - and the OCAA in freshman scoring - first year guard Brianna Stewart (Brampton, Ont.) was named the OCAA Rookie of the Year, in addition to garnering places on the OCAA All-Star and All-Rookie teams.

"I'm very proud of Brianna, she's worked really hard this year," head coach Willie Delas said. "She showed great toughness all season, not only coming back from her injury last year, but playing her way through some bumps and bruises along the way. She's very deserving of this achievement."

Stewart had been set to join the club in January 2016, but suffered an achilles injury before she could suit up.

Once she did, however, it was evident that she could put points on the board, scoring 30 in her first non-conference game against Durham in September.

Stewart averaged 16 points a night - ranking her 10th in the OCAA overall - and her 320 total points is the second highest single-season Bruin rookie total, just behind Haeven Durrant's 337 in the 2012-13 campaign.

She scored in double figures in all but three games and topped 20 points in eight of 20 regular season contests, including a stretch in late January and early February where she scored 20+ in four straight, and five out of six.

After suffering an ankle injury in the regular season finale at Fanshawe that limited her to just five minutes, she managed to play through in the injury in the Bruins' playoff contest at Durham four days late, scoring a team-high 20 points.
