Women's basketball downs Durham in non-conference opener

BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (1-0) opened their season on a winning note, with an 84-70 triumph over Durham.

The Bruins led 40-34 at the break and opened the second half on a 7-0 run that gave them a double-digit cushion they would not relinquish.

Durham pulled to within nine, 59-50, but the Double-Blue replied with an 18-0 run that put the game out of reach.

Brianna Stewart - who had been set to make her Double-Blue debut in January before an Achilles injury prevented her from suiting up - scored 30 to the lead the way.

Theresa Brown added 21, while freshman Sydney Charvis scored 16 in her Sheridan debut.

The Bruins will play against an Alumni team during Sheridan Homecoming on Sept. 30 (4pm), before travelling to Montreal for a trio of games over Thanksgiving weekend.
