Women's basketball drop second half opener to Fanshawe

BRAMPTON, Ont. -- The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (3-17, 2-8 OCAA) dropped their first OCAA West contest of 2017, falling 71-50 to Fanshawe.

"I thought we had our moments tonight, but in the second half we just struggled to get baskets to go," head coach Willie Delas said. "It's a quick turn around though, so we'll get back to work, try to fix some of those things and prepare to go to Redeemer on Saturday."

The two sides were tied at 14 after the first frame and the Lady Bruins were in danger of falling into a large deficit going into halftime after a Fanshawe 13-0 run, but the Double-Blue closed the half on a 5-0 run of their own to trim the margin to six (35-29) at the break.

It would not create much momentum for them to open the third quarter however, as Fanshawe opened the second half on a 15-1 run.

Sheridan managed to climb to within 11 late in the third, but that would be as close as they would get, with their deficit compouned by connecting on only seven of 35 second half attempts from the floor.

Theresa Brown scored a game-high 20 points, while Racquel Dyer was also in double figures with 10.

Liana Rose Villegas hauled down a game-high 12 boards.

The club is back in action on January 14, as they travel to Redeemer for a 1pm tipoff.
