Cross country rounding into a form after meet at Seneca

KING CITY, Ont. - For a second straight week, the Sheridan Bruins cross country teams put up solid results, with the men's team claiming a second straight runner-up finish.

"It's shaping up to be a really good year for us, the men are looking really strong," head coach Danny Webster said.

Cole Bond was once again the lead runner for the Double-Blue, finish second with a time of 29:05.

Garret Murphy (30:16), Matt Reeve (30:56), and Andrew Convery (31:13), also scored points for the Bruins, who trailed OCAA Championship host Fanshawe on the podium and were just ahead of Humber.

On the women's side, Sheridan finished in ninth, but with 105 points were not far back of fifth place Mohawk, who scored 89.

"We were much faster than last week, there's still some work that needs to be done, but we were within striking distance of the top-five," Webster said. "Our goal this year is to be top-five [at the OCAA Championship] and make it to Nationals. We didn't achieve that today, but there's room for improvement, for sure."

Erin Kinninmont (28:10) was the top finisher for the Bruins, with Marla Brown (29:15), Lexy Pakenham-Troth (29:51), and Monique Parlevliet (29:57) not that far behind.

With exactly four weeks until the OCAA Championship, Webster feels good about where both teams are at, and is focused more on maintainence."

"Our main focus right now is just to stay healthy," he said. "Everyone's really fit, so now it's more about injury management. We're going to start tapering off the workouts - lower mileage, higher intensity - but really I just want us to stay healthy."

The teams have two more tune-up races before the Championships, with a trip to Centennial on Oct. 14 and Brock on Oct. 21.
