Round of 16 loss to La Cite concludes men's volleyball season

OTTAWA, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's volleyball team (9-13, 7-12 OCAA) saw their season come to an end in the OCAA Round of 16, suffering a 3-0 (25-10, 26-24, 25-21) loss to La Cite.

It was a horrendous start for the Double Blue, seeing the home side go an early 6-0 run to open up a big lead. Aside from winning the first point of the match, the Bruins were never fully engaged in the opening set but were able to bounce back in set two.

La Cite's Xavier Demars painted the line in front of the Sheridan bench and then served a floater to just past the attack line that couldn't be handled, giving the Coyotes a 22-20 lead. Still, Sheridan battled back to level the set at 24-24, but couldn't get over the hump and lost the next two points.

Much of the third set was played with the two sides within a point or two of each other, but La Cite took control for good with a 3-0 run to break an 18-18 tie. With limited margin for error, the Bruins were unable to make up the deficit.

Andrew Cianci scored a team-high seven points on four kills and three blocks, while Liam Butchereit had a match-high seven digs.

La Cite will now advance to the OCAA Championship at Humber, where they will take on Redeemer in the quarter-final.
