HAMILTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's volleyball team (2-2, 0-1 OCAA) made the relatively short trip down the QEW for their regular season opener at Mohawk, but came back empty handed after a 3-1 loss.

"We had a tough day at the service line, committing far too many errors, and we struggled at times to execute our game plan," head coach Frank Pento said. "We competed really hard in sets three and four, but unfortunately we were unable to overcome a slow start that put us in a 2-0 hole." 

The Bruins didn't put Mohawk under much pressure in either of the opening sets, as the home side won both, 25-20 and 25-18. Sheridan did bounce back to take the third, 25-17, but were edged out in the fourth, 25-23.

Andre Zopf was one of three Bruins in double figures, scoring a match-high 17 points (14 kills, three blocks), followed by Ricky Davids (10 kills, three blocks, one ace) and Liam Butchereit (eight kills, two aces), who also posted 16 digs.

Sheridan committed 21 service errors in the match, which is four more than their highest total in any match over the last two seasons, and Pento says the first step in fixing the issues will be to review what went wrong.

"We'll watch the video and look to improve from this performance," he said. "We have two big matches next weekend and we need to get back to work. Our guys are resilient and I'm expecting see extremely high focus this week, which will make us better."
