Men's volleyball fall in quarter-final to Mohawk

HAMILTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's volleyball team (10-10 OCAA) were eliminated from championship contention, falling in straight sets to the hosts from Mohawk.

"Sometimes you just have to tip your hat to the other team," head coach Frank Pento said. "I thought Mohawk was outstanding tonight. They put us under pressure right from the start and even when we started to loosen up and play the way we want to play, an error here or there would take us out of our rhythm."

Mohawk jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first set and the Double-Blue was never able to get fully settled and dropped the opener 25-17.

Sheridan was more competitive in each of the next two, but Mohawk was able to pull away late in each of the second and third sets to claim 25-21 and 25-20 victories.

Shaun Lasala was named player of the game for the Double-Blue, scoring eight points (seven kills, one ace) while hitting at a .583 clip.

The Bruins now drop into the consolation bracket and will square off against their rivals from Humber tomorrow at 3pm.
