OAKVILLE, Ont. (By Kevin John Sacdalan) -- The Sheridan Bruins men's volleyball team (6-7, 3-4 OCAA) lost in straight sets last Saturday, as they hosted the Niagara Knights.

Although the Bruins could not muster a set in this match, all three sets were tightly contested. Niagara was up early in the first set, but the Bruins went on a run halfway through the set to take the lead and force Niagara head coach, Nathan Groenveld, to call a timeout. Despite holding a 19-16 lead, Niagara stole the first set with a strong push at the end, winning the set 25-23.

Niagara carried that momentum into the second set, getting out to an early lead and holding on to it, taking it 25-22. It was more of the same in the third set as well, winning it 25-23 to win the match in straight sets.

"Niagara served tough and they have a fast offense," Bruins head coach Frank Pento said. "It made it tough for us to defend."

After coming out of the gates strong to start their OCAA season with two straight set victories over Cambrian and Boreal, the Bruins have lost four of their last five matches. This match against Niagara marks their second consecutive loss.

"Sometimes it's just not your night," Pento said. "We aren't happy with our performance. We are going to regroup and focus on the next match."

The Bruins will take on the St. Clair Saints at home this Saturday. Both the Bruins and Saints have an OCAA record of 3-4.
