REXDALE, Ont. -- The Sheridan Bruins men's volleyball team (3-3 OCAA) continue their rollercoaster start to the season, suffering a five-set loss to the rival Humber Hawks.

The Bruins came flying out of the gates building up a 17-7 lead in the first set. Despite some costly errors, the Bruins were able to hang on and close out the set.

The Hawks, feeding off the momentum built in the late stages of set 1, took control of the match by taking sets Number two and three in a pair of tightly contested sets.

With their backs against the wall, the Bruins were able to pull off a gutsy 31-29 set win and force a fifth and deciding set.

The Bruins led 8-4 at the turnaround and were looking very strong in the fifth, but a serving run by the Hawks saw the match level at 8-8.

Unfortunately the Bruins were not able to swing the momentum back in their favour and dropped the set 15-10 and match 3-2.

This marks the second time this season that the Bruins have dropped a late lead in the 5th set.

"We competed extremely hard, but once again, timely errors, and execution of simple skills cost us this one," head coach Frank Pento said. "We need to get over this mental block of giving up leads when the match appears to be in our control.

"Humber is a big strong team, and they are not easy to beat in their gym. A couple positives are that first year players MacCauley Ross and Liam Butchereit are really starting to produce offensively and defensively for us. We have a big match on Saturday against Niagara, so we will watch some film and do our best to get prepared for that this week in practice."
