Men’s volleyball fall in straight sets to Redeemer

OAKVILLE, Ont. (By Kevin John Sacdalan) - The Sheridan Bruins men's volleyball team (2-2 OCAA) dropped their second consecutive match of the season, falling short to the hands of the Redeemer Royals in straight sets this past weekend.

The match opened up with a tight and entertaining first set, in which both teams exchanged leads throughout the set. It would go back and forth, but the Royals would take the early match lead, winning the first set, 27-25.

From that point on, it was all Royals as they took early leads in the second and third set and never looked back, winning them both, 25-20.

"Redeemer serves very tough, and plays great defence," head coach Frank Pento said. "I thought we passed okay for the majority of the match, but at key times their serving pressure gave us trouble."

This win over the Bruins was the Royal's first OCAA win of the season, as they now sit with a 1-2 conference record.

"They compete very hard and never give up on a point," Pento said about the Royals. "They are able to execute a game plan and stay very disciplined on defence."

The Bruins on the other hand, fall to an OCAA record of 2-2.

"(We've) got to put this one behind us and start focusing on our next match with Conestoga," Pento added.

The Bruins will look to put an end to their two-game losing skid, as that matchup with the Conestoga Condors takes place on the road this Friday.
