Men's volleyball pick-up runner-up finish at Fanshawe tournament

LONDON, Ont. -- The Sheridan Bruins men's volleyball team (3-2) had a successful weekend in London at the Fanshawe College Volleyball Tournament.

The Bruins opened the tournament with a 3-0 Loss against the host Falcons but were able to bounce back the following morning, edging St. Clair 3-2 in come from behind fashion, followed by a dominant 3-0 victory over Boreal.

The final day of the tournament, the Bruins found themselves in a tough semi final against the Seneca Sting -- a re-match of last years OCAA quarter-final.

After losing the opening set, the Bruins rallied to take the next three sets to take the match 3-1 and advance to the final.

The final match saw the Bruins and Falcons squaring off again. In a tightly contested final, the Falcons pulled ahead late in each of the first two sets to find themselves with a 2-0 lead going into the third.

At that point the Double-Blue had no energy left in the tank, and the Falcons were able to take the set and Championship.

Tournament All-Stars for the Bruins were Third Year Left Side Christian Dela Cruz, and First Year Libero Liam Butchereit.

Although they fell short of the Championship, Coach Pento was very pleased with his teams play.

"I felt that we competed very well, and played great team defense," he said. "It's clear to see we don"t have the size we did last year, so returning players are still adjusting to the new systems, but I think everyone did a great job this weekend. Our young players are transitioning well to the college game and I look forward to watching everyone's progress over the next few weeks of Pre-Season".
