Bruins announce first commit to 2016-17 class

OAKVILLE, Ont. — The Sheridan Bruins men's volleyball team (20-10, 11-5 OCAA) are one of the hottest teams in the country early in 2016 and they took a quick peek ahead to the 2016-17 campaign, securing the commitment of libero Liam Butchereit.

"I chose Sheridan because I really liked the program and when I met Frank, I really liked him as well," Butchereit said. "I really like the mix of what the team has now and will look like next year."

"We could not be more happy with Liam's decision to commit to Sheridan," added head coach Frank Pento. "He is an extremely talented and hard-working student-athlete. He has a great attitude and is a natural leader."

Butchereit, from Rick Hansen Secondary School in Mississauga, has been accepted to the Chemical Engineering Technology – Environment program based at Sheridan's Davis Campus in Brampton.

From a volleyball perspective, Butchereit has been a key contributor to the Pakmen Volleyball Club for the past few years in addition to being the libero for Team Ontario and playing for the Region 5 team in the 2014 Ontario Winter games.

Pento is confident that Butchereit will make a quick adjustment to taking on his new role as a Bruin next season.

"We expect Liam to have an integral role as we see many graduating players this year," he said. "His compete level and drive for success leaves no doubt in my mind that we have gained something special in Liam."
