Thorpe named OCAA Star of the Week

OAKVILLE, Ont. - After netting a hat trick - all within the span of 15 minutes on either side of halftime - and providing an assist on captain Sundin Esperence's 69th minute tally as the Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (5-0-4 OCAA) downed UTM 7-0, first-year striker Rahim Thorpe was named an OCAA Star of the Week.

Thorpe scored his first one minute before halftime, flicking Manuel Morgado's free kick from just outside the box past UTM's Aaron Peters. He tacked on his second a minute into the second half, with Cyrus Rollocks out-muscling his defender to win a ball and slid it back towards the six-yard box where Thorpe supplied the one-touch finish.

He completed his treble on the hour mark, threading a pass between two defenders for Rollocks who ran on to it, took a touch to turn his man, and laid it back off for Thorpe.

The victory was crucial for the Double Blue as it kept their Central Division title hopes alive, with a showdown for the crown taking place tomorrow, as the Bruins host Humber (7-1-1) with the winner earning a bye into the OCAA quarter-finals.
