Men's soccer eliminated from post-season by Fanshawe

OAKVILLE, Ont. -- The Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (4-5-2 OCAA) fell behind by three goals to Fanshawe in their OCAA Championship qualifier and were unable to draw closer than within two, dropping a 3-1 decision.

"It's kind of been the story of our year," head coach Andrew Seuradge said. "We were a little sluggish getting out of the gates and when we put together opportunities, we just couldn't finish them. Full credit to Fanshawe though. They really put us under pressure early and until the last 20 minutes or so, we were never really able to apply the same kind of pressure to them."

Fanshawe's Chad GoPaul gave the visitors the lead in just the eighth minute and they secured momentum going into the second half when Alberto Barquin scored just prior to the end of the first half.

David Harriman-Duke scored the final Fanshawe tally in the 58th minute, before Nicolas Meija put the Bruins on the board in the 66th minute with a conversion from the penalty spot.

For his infraction, Fanshawe's Tomas Alvarez was shown a yellow card -- his second in a five minute stretch -- and his subsequent dismissal gave Sheridan an advantage for the game's final 25 minutes.

They applied some pressure and had more than a few quality opportunities, but could never pull any closer.
