Men's soccer downs Seneca in season opener

OAKVILLE, Ont. -- The Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (1-0 OCAA) overcome a bit of a sluggish start in their OCAA Central season opener, scoring three times in the game's final hour to pick up a 3-0 win over Seneca.

"In the first half I don't know if it was some nerves -- a lot of these guys are brand new -- and I thought we played a little shaky until we got one in the back of the net," head coach Andrew Seuradge said. "By the second half we were a little bit better, some subs came in and filled in 100 per cent and we definitely finished the game better than we started."

Over the games opening 10 minutes, Seneca was able to dictate the pace, relagating the Double-Blue mostly into a defend and clear

Eventually the Bruins were able to find their legs and were rewarded with the game's opening goal when Nicolas Mejia was able to slide one past the Seneca keeper at the half hour mark.

Sheridan nearly added to their total in the 55th minute when Darragh Roe swung a wonderful ball in off the right side, but Quentin Williams header was a touch too high and clanged off the crossbar.

They would strike six minutes later though, when Mejia completed his brace with a header of his own.

Sheldon Rodgers added the third Bruin tally in the 75th minute, while Craig Boytchuk kept the sheet clean for the home side.

The Bruins will travel to take on George Brown (1-1) on Saturday, September 17.
