OAKVILLE, Ont. - Having established a new team record for single-game points with 21 in the season-opening win for the Sheridan Bruins men's rugby team (1-0 OCAA), third-year fly half Justin Tota was named an OCAA Star of the Week.
He scored the opening try four minutes in and featured on two more in the second half, both of which could go on a shortlist of best tries of the season. On the first, he received the ball inside the centre circle and sliced his way through or past 10 would-be Conestoga tackles.
Just as the first was a display of speed and agility, the second was sheer power, shaking off three tackles 15 metres from the goal line before dragging three more defenders with him to touch it down. He added three converts to round out his scoring.
With eight of nine OCAA teams having now hit the field, Tota sits third in league scoring. The Bruins will travel to Mohawk on Sept. 22.
