Men's rugby drop season finale against Georgian

OAKVILLE, Ont. -- The Sheridan Bruins men's rugby team (2-4 OCAA) showed no quit at any point, but came up short in their season finale, dropping a 41-17 decision to Georgian.

"We played well. We had a lot of guys with knocks and bumps and bruises and everybody played their heart out," head coach Carlos Moniz said. "No one can say that we don't play with heart."

Ian Alishaw and Matt DaCosta scored tries for the Double-Blue, while DaCosta kicked a pair of converts and a penalty kick.

In a competitive West Division, the Bruins will miss the post-season by virtue of bonus points.

While disappointed by the end result of the season, Moniz was able to point to it as a continuing evolution of the program and is already formulating what can be done in the off-season to continue that trend.

"With the existing guys, we're going to set up our year-round strength and conditioning program, so we'll work as a team and then together in smaller groups to get stronger," he said. "And then we usually have a touch tournament that we go and attend in the spring. Beyond that, we'll get out on the recruiting trail. If we can continue to bring in good quality provincial level players and good quality club players, that means we don't have to start at the begining every year."
