WELLAND, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (28-7, 18-5 OCAA) had the nation's top ranked team on the ropes, but Seneca connected on three massive 3-pointers in the final 98 seconds of regulation to force overtime, before running away in the final two minutes of the extra session to knock off the defending champion Bruins 89-81. 

"I'm just devestated for this group of young men," head coach Jim Flack said. "Honestly, a lot of people thought we would struggle this year. We asked them to buy into a very different style and they did. We had a couple of terrible errors late or we would have won in regulation. Seneca shoots it so well. I thought we defended rather well and our guys executed at that end nicely. But our offence has been hot and cold, and it went cold at the wrong time."

Back and forth the whole way, the game featured 16 lead changes and 10 ties. 

The Bruins led 24-19 after one, but scored just 10 points in the second frame to trail by one, 35-34, at the half.

Seneca increased their cushion to four entering the final period, but the Bruins quickly re-claimed the lead.

Trying to get three point advantage into the house, the Double Blue lost track of Seneca's Khalil Miller twice in the final 1:38.

He connected on a pair of triples, the first tying the game at 65 and the second giving Seneca a 70-69 lead with less than a minute to play.

Still, Sheridan would lead by three with 16 seconds remaining after a Jemol Edwards bucket, a stop at the defensive end of the floor, and a pair of clutch free throws from Nav Deol. 

The Bruins were late to switch on a screen for Seneca's Yusuf Ali, who made no mistake on the corner 3-ball. 

In the extra session, the Double Blue nearly overcame a rough start - Seneca's Trevor Hutton converted a four-point play on their first possession - and led 81-80 with 1:37 to play, but were unable to score any more.

The loss drops them into the bronze medal game where they will play Redeemer.
