Men's basketball close regular season home schedule with win over St. Clair

BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (25-6, 14-4 OCAA) finished their regular season home schedule with a 106-91 victory over St. Clair.

"We feel pretty good about our effort today," head coach Jim Flack said. "Aside a lull in the second half, we played the pace and style we needed to establish."

The Bruins opened the game on a 9-0 run and pushed their advantage to 11 (20-9) before St. Clair narrowed the gap to six (24-18) after one.

Sheridan put together two big, unanswered runs (11-0 and 8-0) on their way to a 52-36 halftime edge.

Throughout much of the third frame, the visitors chipped away at their deficit and brought the game back to single digits (Sheridan leading 76-67), after their own 11-0 run.

The Double Blue saw their opposition tread water with the margin hovering around 10, before closing the door with a 10-3 run that effectively put the game out of reach.

Nick Campbell scored a game-high 28 points, while Nav Deol (23), AJ Thompson (12), and Jemol Edwards (10) were also in double figures.

The Bruins will close out the regular season with a trip to Fanshawe on Feb. 21, knowing they will return to their home court next weekend for a Championship qualifier playoff game.

What they don't know yet is what their final OCAA West standing will be, along with who they will play.

They will finish either second or third in the division, depending on the result of their game, along with that of their rivals from Humber, who visit division-champion Redeemer.

Blue notes: Prior to the game, three seniors - Jamar Parkinson, Deol, and Terell Carr - were honoured for their commitment to the Sheridan program.
