Men's basketball get split in trip to Buffalo

BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (15-3, 8-1 OCAA) picked up a split in their trip south of the border, falling 83-80 on a 27-foot buzzer beater against Washington Adventist University before bouncing back with an emphatic 98-31 triumph over Southern State Community College.

"It was a great chance for us to get some more substantial minutes for guys who will be carrying the Bruin tradition into the future," head coach Jim Flack said.

The Bruins led WAU 41-38 at the half and built their advantage as high as 13 in the second half, but were unable to put their opponents away.

After pulling level at 80-80, WAU's Charles Vines drilled a deep 3-pointer at the buzzer to settle the contest.

Nick Campbell scored a team-high 20 points to go with nine boards, while Carlo Dubria (14), and Romar Suban (10) both hit double figures.

Tre Anderson filled up the stats sheet, finishing with seven points, nine rebounds, and six blocks.

Against Southern State CC, the Double Blue were in control the whole way, leading 50-10 at the half and cruising in the second half.

Dubria led the way with 21 points to go along with eight assists, while five other Bruins - Nav Deol, 20 points; Justice Williams 20 points, 13 rebounds; Jayvon Grant-Lake, 14 points, six assists, five rebounds; Campbell, 12 points; and Anderson, 12 points - hit double figures.

The Bruins have one more non-conference to tune their game for the resumption of OCAA West play in January, heading to Humber for the OCAA East/West Holiday Series on Dec. 29 and 30.

They will play Centennial (12pm) and George Brown (4pm) on Dec. 29, before closing out the tournament and the year with a showdown against the East Division-leaders from Seneca (12pm) on Dec. 30.
