CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI - The Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (36-4, 19-0 OCAA) weren't quite able to check off the final goal on their list, but they capped what was still a magical season by earning a national silver medal after a 68-64 loss to Montmorency in the national championship game. 

"It was a disappointing finish to a pretty great and a pretty incredible year by this team," assistant coach Nick Davis said. "We just didn't play as well as we normally play. We played hard, we didn't play smart at times and we just could not perform at the level we normally perform at. I think if we play at even half that level, we would have had a better result. But in the end, we had a really successful year. I'm really proud of the effort the guys made and hopefully they take away that they did something special this year in terms of how well they played, how well they bonded and how well they represented Sheridan College throughout the year."

Both sides seemed to struggle offensively throughout the contest, as the Bruins connected on just 26.3 per cent of their attempts from the floor, while Montmorency was marginally better at 33.3 per cent. 

The Bruins trailed 18-15 after the first quarter, but would hold a 34-33 advantage at the break. 

Montmorency would pull level at 46-46 going into the final frame and a run midway through the quarter gave the RSEQ champions at nine-point cushion with 2:15 to play. 

Sheridan would chip away at their deficit and managed to trim it to just two with 55.3 seconds remaining after a three-pointer from Dylan Periana, but ultimately the Bruins just ran out of time.

Paul Williams was named the player of the game for the Double-Blue after scoring 14 points and ripping down a game-high 20 boards. 

Brian Owusu scored a team-high 15 points, while Periana was the only other Bruin in double figures with 12. 

Periana, Owusu and Williams were all named tournament All-Stars.
