Men's basketball cap unbeaten regular season with wins over Lambton, St. Clair

WINDSOR, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (31-3, 16-0 OCAA) completed the first unbeaten regular season in team history, downing Lambton 100-76 and holding off St. Clair 80-73.

The Bruins got off to a bit of a slow start, but a 10-0 run late in the first quarter gave them a double-digit advantage they wouldn't give up.

They scored 30 in the second frame and led 48-35 at intermission.

Lambton trimmed the margin to 10 a couple times early in the third quarter, but that would be as close as they would get.

Four Bruins were in double figures, led by Ostap Choliy (28) and followed by Brian Owusu (23), Nick Campbell (16) and Dylan Periana (12).

Paul Williams hauled down a game-high 13 boards.

In their regular season finale, the Bruins got a late push from St. Clair -- who led briefly 69-66 in the fourth quarter -- but closed the game on a 14-4 run to secure the victory.

Owusu scored a game-high 19, while Periana (18) and Choliy (10) were also in double figures.

The team had already secured their 16th Division title and will be off until the OCAA Championship hosted by Centennial March 2-4.

Blue notes: Periana finishes his regular season career with the Bruins with the sixth most points (905) and fourth most three-pointers (126) in team history. Owusu now sits 12th in team scoring with 761 and is the fifth Bruin to hit at least 100 threes in his career, sitting with 101. Choliy's 58 three pointers on the season ties him with Khalid Abdel-Gabar for the second highest single season total and puts him only six behind Abdel-Gabar's team record.
