Men's basketball hold off Fanshawe in second half opener

BRAMPTON, Ont. -- The Sheridan Bruins men's basketball team (23-3, 8-0 OCAA) didn't have their most efficient performance, but managed to hold off Fanshawe 90-78 in their second half opener.

After Fanshawe scored the first bucket of the game, the Bruins responded with a 13-0 run that forced the vistors to take a timeout and re-group.

Sheridan would hold a 24-16 advantage after one and they would ultimately trail at the break, as Fanshawe's Chris Parker drilled a contested corner three-pointer at the buzzer to give Fanshawe a 44-42 edge.

The Bruins would quickly re-establish their lead and would take an eight-point advantage (62-54) into the final frame, after closing the third on a 10-3 run.

In the fourth quarter, the Double-Blue would extend the margin to as high as 17 but saw Fanshawe slowly chip away to make it a two-possession game (84-78) late before Sheridan would close the door with a few stops and some made free throws.

Brian Owusu scored a game-high 20, while Dylan Periana scored 19 and dished out nine assists.

Nick Campbell (15) and Navdeep Deol (12) were also in double figures for the Bruins.

Blue notes: With his 20 point performance, Owusu became the 19th player in team history to top 600 career points.
