Men's basketball re-name Bruins Bash tournament the Wayne Allison Fall Showdown

BRAMPTON, Ont. -- The Sheridan Bruins Athletic Department is pleased to announce that the 25th edition of the tournament formerly known as the Bruins Bash will now be called the Wayne Allison Fall Showdown.

"Wayne's contribution to Sheridan Basketball, and to the OCAA and CCAA, are incredible," athletic director and men's basketball head coach Jim Flack said. "It's the very least we could do."

Wayne Allison took the reins of a Sheridan men's basketball program that had been building towards more success in the late 70s, but found a way to elevate it to new heights.

His first two seasons at the helm were very much about building, but by his third season the Bruins were now officially a threat, finishing as the OCAA runners-up and garnering the school's first appearance at the national championship, where they finished fourth.

In 1984-85, Allison would guide the Double-Blue to the top of the mountain by claiming the first OCAA and CCAA Championships in team history, claiming the latter by an average victory margin of 13 points.

During his career, he compiled an overall record of 332-200, while winning 70 per cent of his OCAA conference games (188-82).

He won four OCAA Championships, two CCAA Championships, three regular season OCAA Division Championships and added a CCAA Silver Medal in 1985-86.

Allison will also be honoured in the second semester when a banner bearing his name will be raised to the rafters, a fitting tribute to one of the most important coaches to ever be at the helm of a double-blue program at Sheridan.

The tournament tips off this Friday, with the Bruins hosting UTM, Georgian, La Cite, Canadore and Sault.

The Double-Blue will open their tournament against Canadore (12pm, Friday) before playing La Cite (8pm, Friday) and Georgian (10am, Saturday).
