In 1974 Nick Maandag arrived at Sheridan with only one year of High School basketball experience, a ton of athletic ability and a huge heart.
During his four seasons at Sheridan, Nick developed into one of the best all-around players in Sheridan’s history. Every summer he worked tirelessly to improve his skills and conditioning.
Nick exemplified all of the attributes that a coach searches for in athletes. He was dedicated, unselfish, and a great team player. He was a great offensive player, a better defender and consistently led his team in rebounds.
In 1976 and 1977 Nick was named the Bruins MVP and in 1978 he honoured as Sheridan’s Male Athlete of the Year.
The tremendous contribution Nick made to development of the Sheridan basketball program easily warrants his induction into Sheridan’s Hall of Fame.
