Women's Rugby Earns First Win of the Season

OAKVILLE, Ont. – After a rough start in their first set of games, the Sheridan Bruins women's rugby team (1-5) responded with a stronger effort, picking up their first win of the season and first of Head Coach Alex McCallion's career.

The Bruins started sluggish in their first contest against the undefeated Humber Hawks, losing by a score of 35-5. Carah Hager was the only Bruin to make it onto the scoresheet, with a late game try.

In the second matchup, the Bruins got behind early once again to the Conestoga Condors, and trailed 7-0 after the first half. However, with only one-minute remaining, Kirsten Archer evened the game with a successful try after the Bruins controlled the ball for much of the second half. Immediately after, they got the ball back and Jasmine Muzvidziwa broke through the Condor defense, and on the final play, broke through the try line and gave the Bruins a thrilling 12-7 win.

In their final battle of the day, the Bruins took on a strong Seneca squad. Although Kristina Ramlakhan-Maharaj scored in the second half, the Bruins still dropped the match 22-7.

The Bruins next games will be on October 5th and 6th in Peterborough, as they travel to Fleming College for five pivotal East/West crossover games.
