Head Coach - Men's Rugby Sheridan Athletics and Recreation

 

As the key figure in the Varsity Rugby program, the Head Coach plays a pivotal role in the development, implementation, and evaluation of the curriculum. This crucial task is aimed at equipping student athletes with the necessary skills and mindset to excel within the Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA). The position necessitates extensive collaboration with the Athletic Department to ensure the provision of optimal services and support to the varsity athletes, thereby shaping their future.

 

Responsibilities:

· Identify and actively recruit student-athletes to appropriate Sheridan academic programs.

· Support student-athletes for their academic and athletic performance while buying into the Sheridan Athletics mantra – Study. Compete. Graduate. Succeed.

· Organize and execute competitions and activities to profile Sheridan College and Sheridan Athletics.

· Organizing and delivering a high school boys' rugby tournament and clinics in collaboration with the athletic staff

· Prepare strategies to maximize Sheridan's strengths and to counter opponent strategies effectively.

· Supervise the team at all times throughout all practices, games, and road trips at all times while representing Sheridan and abiding by Sheridan Athletics and OCAA guidelines.

· Maintain a degree of professionalism, acting as an ambassador representing the team and college to enhance the image of the college and program.

· Ability to work non-traditional hours (evenings & weekends)

 

Qualifications:

· NCCP Level 2 certification (or in progress).

· Proven relationships with high school and club rugby coaches considered an asset.

· Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

· Demonstrate a high caliber of leadership, sportsmanship and coaching performance.

 

General Overview:

· The varsity rugby program operates out of both the Brampton (Davis) campus and the Oakville (Trafalgar) campus of Sheridan College, but involves student athletes from all three campuses.

· Exhibition games, tournaments and league games will occur around the province and the Head Coach must be prepared to travel on weeknights and overnight on weekends with the team.

· The competitive season begins in early September and runs until approximately November.

 

The Head Coach will be responsible for recruiting, training and supervising assistant coaches as needed.
