World Health Day: Time Management & Your Health

Time Management and Your Health

Did you know that Serena Williams uses the Toggl app? The Toggl app helps track her time and break down what percentage of her day goes to family, business, and tennis. Serena is one of the most successful athletes of all time, and she needs an app to help with her time management.

Students face challenges when it comes to keeping track what needs to get done, scheduling and prioritizing. This World Health Day we want to help you to figure out which time management strategies work best for you academically, and to utilize the same strategies to make time for physical activity and healthy eating.

Including physical activity and healthy eating into your daily life can help improve sleep, memory, mood, and reduce symptoms of depression and anxiety. All those can translate into better studying, improved grades, but where do you start?

Step 1: Set Goals related to physical activity, yours could be:

  • Walk outside 4 times a week, join a mood route on Fridays!

Need some help making health related goals? See our SMART Goals post or connect with our personal trainer for more information. Whatever it is, make a point of the goal by including it in Step 2.

Step 2: Schedule Your Day! When scheduling your day, make sure to prioritize assignments that are due soon and exams that you need time to study for, but don’t forget to take breaks. Taking breaks will allow you to avoid feeling burnt out. Take advantage of these breaks to get your other priorities done, like physical activity, it will get your blood flowing and increase your energy so you can study for longer. Be sure to schedule your goals you set in step 1 into your schedule.

Struggling to stay on schedule? Try these:

  • Add short breaks, try a Sheridan Bruins fit break!

  • Schedule important tasks during times when you typically have lots of energy.

  • Allow for flexibility in your schedule.

Step 3: Always Stay Informed! Check out additional information on Time Management from the Library and Learning Service Time Management Module to help you make the most of your time.
