37 student athletes walk across the stage during Sheridan Convocation

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - The Sheridan Athletics and Recreation department celebrated the graduation of 37 current and former varsity student athletes this week during Sheridan spring convocation.

"We are extremely proud of each and every one of these Bruins," athletic director Jim Flack said. "They have not only been tremendous ambassadors for Sheridan, but they have found a way to juggle the demands of their academics, athletics, and their personal lives. It cannot be understated how important it is for us to highlight the academic achievements of our student athletes. Competitive victories, awards, and championships take place in a highly public forum, but it is the quiet dedication to their studies that will ultimately bring this group the largest amount of success down the road."

Among the 37 graduates, 16 are walking away with a Bachelor's degree, and the cross country team led the way with five degrees and seven graduates overall.

The majority of the graduates came from the Faculty of Applied Health & Community Studies with 19, followed by the the Faculty of Animation, Arts & Design (11), the Faculty of Applied Science & Technology (4), the Faculty of Humanities & Social Sciences (2) and rounded out one graduate from the Pilon School of Business.

On the competitive side, Bruins in the 2019 graduating class accumulated four OCAA Championships, 16 OCAA medals, five CCAA medals, six OCAA All-Star awards, while one was named an All-Canadian, and two were named Academic All-Canadians.
