Women's volleyball downs Conestoga to run win-streak to four

OAKVILLE, Ont. - Although they hadn't seen action in two weeks, the Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (9-2, 4-1 OCAA) picked up where they left off, posting a 3-0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-13) win over Conestoga to run their win streak to four.

"We've been focusing a lot on serve and serve receive lately, trying to find consistency in those two skills," head coach Scott Hunt said. "I thought we did a fairly good job at that today. However there are other areas in our game that we haven't spent as much time working on lately that we're going to have to clean up moving forward. All in all we didn't play a complete game today but we battled through it and found a way to win."

Back and forth for much of the opening set, the Bruins took command with a 4-0 run midway through, to take a 16-14 lead. They extended their advantage 19-15 and were able to sideout on their way to a 25-20 opening set win.

They jumped out to an early 9-3 lead in the second and pushed their lead as high as eight, but had to hold off a late run after Conestoga narrowed the gap to two (20-18). It was a similar story in the third with the Double Blue getting out to a 9-4 lead, only this time they were able to close out emphatically.

It was a balanced Sheridan attack as four Bruins - Tamia Cooper Evelyn, Tara Aune, Rachel Abrahams, and Katelyn Long - notched nine points to hold a 47-26 advantage in total offence. Cooper-Evelyn and Sydney Romans also posted a match-high 14 digs.

After an extended break between matches, this contest kicked off a stretch when they will play three times in eight days, all on home court. They welcome in Humber on Nov. 21 (6pm).
