HAMILTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (5-2, 0-1 OCAA) opened the league portion of their schedule on a losing note, falling 3-1 to Mohawk.

"Mohawk played to win, while we were playing not to lose and the better team won today," head coach Scott Hunt said. "We had some good moments, but had far too many poor decisions and our mindset was far too tentative for most of the match."

The home side won a tight opening set, 25-23, before the Bruins levelled the match with a 25-21 second set win. Sheridan was unable to keep piece in the third, falling 25-17, and were closed out 25-23 in the fourth. 

Mohawk put up 60 points of total offence to Sheridan's 51, but the Bruins were slightly more efficient at the attack line, hitting at a slightly higher percentage (.223 - .210). Hunt says the team's troubles began at the service line and encompassed both phases of that equation.

"Our serving and serve receive really let us down at times today," he said. "Mohawk had a strong middle attack and we allowed them to set that up on a consistent basis by not putting enough pressure on them." 

Tamia Cooper-Evelyn had double-double with a team-high 15 points (13 kills, two aces) to go along with 10 digs. Tara Aune was also in double figures with 11 points (10 kills, one block), while Sydney Romans (16), Celine Blanchette (13), and Rachel Abrahams (12) all posted double-digit dig totals. 

The Double Blue will hit the road next weekend for their longest away trip of the season, with contests against Cambrian (Oct. 27, 6pm) and Boreal (Oct. 28, 1pm).
