OAKVILLE, Ont. - With two matches in less than 24 hours, it would have been hard for the Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (12-7, 6-5 OCAA) to put together a pair of performances more dissimilar, but such was the case after suffering a 3-0 loss to St. Clair before completing an epic 3-2 comeback triumph over Niagara.

"Niagara is a strong team and we knew we would have to execute at a high level to compete with them. We played some of our best ball of the season in sets three, four, and five to complete the comeback after being down 2-0," head coach Scott Hunt said. "We were able to string together long sequences of great play."

After Niagara claimed the first two sets (25-21, 25-21) the Bruins jumped out to an 11-6 lead in the third and really started to build some momentum when they pushed their advantage to 19-10, before closing out 25-18.

Another quick start - this time leading 7-2 - propelled the Bruins in the fourth set, on their way to a 25-14 win.

It looked as though that would be the narrative in the fifth set as well, with the Double Blue taking a 4-0 lead, but Niagara battled back to trim the margin to one (8-7) at the changeover and was within striking distance of claiming the match, up 13-12.

Sheridan battled back though, and secured the comeback with a 17-15 fifth set win.

That wasn't the case Saturday night though, as the Bruins got off to an awful start, trailing 8-0 and never fully finding their footing until the third set of a 25-13, 25-19, 25-23 defeat.

"We know St. Clair is a good ball control team and they don't make a lot of errors," Hunt said. "They out-played us in every aspect tonight. We weren't close to being mentally prepared and engaged throughout the game to compete with them."

The Bruins will look to use the momentum from the comeback win to spur them down the stretch as another back-to-back weekend looms with a trip to Conestoga (Jan. 19) followed by a home date with Redeemer on Jan. 20.
