Women's volleyball cap season with sweep of Conestoga

OAKVILLE, Ont. - Facing a must-win situation in order to keep their playoff hopes alive, the Sheridan Bruins women's volleyball team (8-10 OCAA) delivered a 3-0 (25-18, 25-12, 25-11) win over Conestoga, but will miss out on the post-season after not getting the help they needed elsewhere.

"We started out a bit sloppy today but once we settled in we started to play a lot more clean. We did our job, but unfortunately Cambrian won both their matches this weekend so we won't be making the playoffs," head coach Scott Hunt said. "Cambrian won two away matches against the third and fourth place teams in our division and won five straight matches to get in so they are the hotter team right now and deserved to get in. I know they will represent the West division well in the playoffs."

While certainly disappointed about not qualifying for the post-season, Hunt understands that he has a young group that should remain in tact next year and believes there were some valuable lessons learned throughout the season.

"It was a disappointing end to our season today knowing we won't be continuing on into the playoffs," he said. "That's back-to-back seasons we fell one win shy of getting in. We showed some strong potential this year, however we just weren't able to close out teams when we had opportunities in the second half of the season. Hopefully we learn a few lessons from this year which will help us win a bit more next season."
