Women's soccer blanks Conestoga for second straight win

KITCHENER, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's soccer team (2-1 OCAA) kept the sheet clean for the first time this season - on the strength of a 20-save performance by Savanna Wood - to pick up their second straight win in a 2-0 victory against Conestoga.

"We got off to a quick start, scord in the first minute and put them back on their heels," head coach Paul Angelini said. "The second goal was an own goal, but it was the result of a breakaway through ball."

Cassidy Chantler scored the goal for the Double-Blue in the opening minute, while the own goal that gave them a two-goal cushion came in the 41st.

The Bruins had nine shot attempts, with eight hitting the target, while Conestoga got off 30, with Wood turning aside all 20 they put on net.

Sheridan will play the home date of their season opener when they host Cambrian on Sept. 24.

After a tight 2-1 defeat on the road in that contest, Angelini is hoping his club is better prepared this time around.

"It's no secret that they're going to play the high balls into their strikers and their midfielders and they're going to be dangerous from set plays," he said. "So we've taken some more time on tactics, defending corners and defending free kicks. I think that's where our improvement will be."
