Women's rugby locks up Championship spot after Crossover weekend

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Although they were only on the positive side of the ledger in one out of five contests, that lone victory - 19-15 over Durham to kickoff the East/West crossover - was a crucial one for the Sheridan Bruins women's rugby team (3-8 OCAA), locking up a spot in the OCAA Championship after Conestoga went 0-5.

By virtue of their two victories over the Condors earlier in the season, the Double Blue were already in possession of the tie-breaker over their West Division foes, meaning that even if Conestoga were to win all three games in the regular season finale on Oct. 20, it wouldn't be enough to leapfrog Sheridan in the standings.

After the win over Durham, the Bruins suffered losses to Loyalist (30-14), St. Lawrence (26-0), Algonquin (36-5), and Fleming (22-7).

The regular season will conclude with Sheridan playing the final of a three-game regular season series against each of Humber, Seneca, and Conestoga at Fletcher's Fields on Oct. 20, while the East Division will wrap up play at Loyalist.

Sheridan Stadium will be the site for the OCAA Championship on Nov. 3.
