BRAMPTON, Ont. - Although they struggled offensively at points and couldn't extend their lead early in the fourth when they had the chance to put the game out of reach, the Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (11-4, 6-2 OCAA) got back in the win column with a hard-fought 61-54 win over Lambton.
"We managed to grind one out against a much improved Lambton team," head coach Sean Douglas said. "We didn't shoot a high percentage but we managed to keep our turnovers low and made some key baskets down the stretch to seal the deal."
A 3-pointer from Sydney Charvis to open the final frame gave Sheridan an 11-point cushion, but they could only muster a pair of made free throws and one bucket over the next eight minutes as the visitors trimmed the margin to two (52-50) with 1:52 remaining. However, the Double Blue got stops on four of the last six Lambton possessions and had a key sequence when their offence clicked to perfection with a pair of layups on back-to-back possessions to secure the victory.
After getting torched from beyond the arc by Fanshawe eight days earlier, the Bruins held Lambton without a 3-ball (0-10) while connecting on six of their 28 attempts. They led 15-12 after one, 30-27 at the break, and 45-37 heading into the final frame.
Charvis led the way with a season-high 25 points while Theresa Brown was also in double figures with 15.
Sheridan will close out the home portion of their first half schedule on Nov. 27 when they host Mohawk (6pm).
