BRAMPTON, Ont. - In a bid to unseat Fanshawe at the top of the OCAA West standings, the Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (10-4, 5-2 OCAA) struggled to find their rhythm offensively and were unable to chase the Falcons off the 3-point line, suffering an 88-53 loss.
"I think Fanshawe showed why they are the number 1 team in Ontario. They are well coached and very experienced," head coach Sean Douglas said. "When you shoot 29 per cent from the field it's hard to beat anybody in this league, and when you add in the fact that we didn't defend the 3-point line very well this is the result.
"We had some good stretches where our rotations looked good, but then we allowed second chance opportunities for 3-pointers and that's what ultimately led them to pull away in the fourth quarter. We'll work on it this week in order to prepare for Lambton next Saturday."
The game was still in reach entering the fourth quarter with Fanshawe leading 58-46, but the wheels came off for Sheridan - with only seven points on 3-16 shooting - while Fanshawe put up 30 in the frame. Prior to that, the visitors had built their lead on efficient offence (35 of 78 from the floor) alongside a sizeable advatange on the glass, out-rebounding the Bruins 53-30, including 16-9 at the offensive end.
Sydney Charvis scored a team-high 16 points for the Double Blue, while five Falcons hit double figures, led by Chuot Angou with 22.
