ANCASTER, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (9-2, 4-0 OCAA) overcame a hot start from a Redeemer squad playing in front of a boisterous crowd in their home opener, claiming a fourth straight win, 80-66.

The game featured 13 lead changes and six ties, and was a one-point game with 5:34 left - the Bruins leading 63-62 - but a 10-0 Sheridan run over the next 1:40 built a double-digit advantage and effectively put the game away. 

That was the reverse of the opening period when Redeemer was on fire, pushing their lead as high as 11 and hitting seven of 12 field goal attempts, including all four from 3-point range. Sydney Charvis was crucial in the first quarter for the Bruins, scoring 10 of their 20 points, to keep the Double Blue within range.  

Sheridan out-scored the home side 20-14 in the second frame to hold a 40-39 advantage at intermission. Redeemer led for the bulk of the third quarter until a late surge gave the Bruins a three-point edge (57-54) heading into the fourth quarter.

Charvis and Theresa Brown each scored 22 points, while Camila Orellana hauled down a game-high 13 boards and Ashley McDonald had 12 rebounds. Tamya Rowe was also in double figures, scoring 13. 

The Bruins have another big road test looming, with a trip to Humber on Nov. 7.
