Women's basketball opens season with three victories at Loyalist Tournament

BELLEVILLE, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (3-0) opened their season at the Loyalist Fall Classic and emerged with a trio of victories.

"We made some serious progress throughout the weekend," head coach Sean Douglas said. "I thought we were a little more advanced defensively when we began play, but we saw the offence start to catch up as we got more reps."

The Bruins opened with a 50-33 win over the hosts, limiting them to four of 26 shooting from the floor (15.4 per cent) in the second half and 11 of 66 (16.7 per cent) overall.

They started slow offensively in their second contest against St. Lawrence, but their defence was sharp once again, allowing just 14 first half points on their way to a 67-40 triumph. The second half marked the Bruins' best offensive out-put of the tournament, putting up 40 points while connecting on 16 of 43 field goal attempts.

Sheridan closed out the tournament by downing a team of Loyalist Alumni 71-56, after leading 32-28 at the break.

Theresa Brown, who led the Bruins with 16.7 points per game during the tournament, and Sydney Charvis - 7.7 points and 8.7 rebounds per game - were named tournament All-Stars.

The Double Blue are in action over the Thanksgiving long weekend, travelling to Montreal for multiple games against RSEQ competition.
