Women's basketball wrap regular season with loss at Fanshawe

LONDON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (11-15, 9-11 OCAA) dropped their final contest of the regular season on the road, falling 76-59 to Fanshawe.

"We did some things really well tonight - we played really well defensively and did a good job of keying on their key players," assistant coach Sean Douglas said. "Unfortunately some of their other players stepped up and hurt us, and the rebounding killed us. They had a 27-6 advantage in offensive rebounds and when you give a team 27 extra chances to score, your chances of winning aren't very high."

Sheridan opened the game on a 6-0 run but saw Fanshawe quickly level the score.

Neither side could get much going in the second quarter offensively, with each club putting up 11 points, as Fanshawe led 33-27 at the break.

While the Bruins continued to struggle at the offensive end in the third, the Falcons found their stride, stretching their advantage to 17-points (54-37) entering the final period, after winning the third quarter 21-10.

Though the Double Blue was final able to get some rhythm offensively - scoring 22 points in the final frame - their deficit had become too great to overcome.

Sydney Charvis led the way with 20 points and five assists.

Sheridan will now enter post-season play, hitting the road for an OCAA Championship qualifier at Durham (9-8 OCAA) Sunday (3:30pm).

The Bruins and Lords met in the season opener in September, with the Double Blue notching an 84-70 triumph.
