BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (10-10, 8-6 OCAA) built an 18-point first quarter lead and never looked back in a wire-to-wire 90-69 win over Lambton.

"It was important to get off to a good start and we certainly did tonight," head coach Willie Delas said. "I would like to see us defend better for a full 40 minutes though. The deeper into the season we get, the more crucial it is to maintain as high a level as we can for as long as we can."

Holding a 12-4 lead early, the Bruins went through a sequence where they connected on a barrage of four 3-pointers in less than three minutes.

They led 29-13 after one and used a 12-0 run in early in the second quarter to open a 45-19 lead, on their way to holding a 24-point cushion (51-27) at the break.

Although the Double Blue didn't quite play up to the level they did in the first half, they never allowed Lambton to trim the margin lower than 20.

Brianna Stewart tied her career-high with 26 points, while Theresa Brown (22), and Sydney Charvis (19) were also in double figures.

Winners of five of their last six, the Bruins are now in the conversation to host a crossover playoff game, but face a crucial contest in that bid when they travel to Niagara (9-5 OCAA) on Jan. 31.

The Knights won the first meeting 82-74 in Brampton on Nov. 28.

Blue notes: The 90 points scored was the highest total posted by the program since Feb. 12, 2012 when they defeated Sault 96-50.
