Women's basketball open 2018 with win over Conestoga

BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (7-9, 5-5 OCAA) opened the second half of their schedule Tuesday, picking up a 72-51 win over Conestoga.

"We did some things well and there were some things we certainly could have done better, but I think that's to be expected with the kind of game schedule we've had the last six weeks," head coach Willie Delas said. "I think this win will help us build some good momentum for the next six weeks."

A 9-2 run midway through the opening frame, gave the Bruins a 15-6 lead early, which they built into a 22-15 advantage after one.

Conestoga chipped away at the margin, pulling to within one - Sheridan leading 24-23 - but the Double Blue responded with a 9-0 run, on their way to a 35-28 halftime lead.

Another 9-0 run from the Bruins to open the second half pushed the lead to 17, with the home side in front 44-28, and maintained their double-digit advantage the rest of the way.

Theresa Brown scored a game-high 20 points, while Brianna Stewart was also in double figures with 19.

The club will have their longest road trip of the season this weekend when they travel to Sault Ste. Marie for a pair (Jan. 20, 6pm and Jan. 21, 1pm) against the Sault College Cougars.
