KITCHENER, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins women's basketball team (3-4, 1-2 OCAA) split a pair of games in back-to-back days - one home, one on the road - after a 73-51 loss to Mohawk, followed by a 62-52 triumph over Conestoga.
Against Mohawk, the Double-Blue fell into a 25-13 hole in the first quarter, but chipped away at the margin - cutting it to one, 32-31, before settling into a 38-35 halftime deficit.
Both sides struggled offensively as the second half began, but the Bruins were able to stay within distance, trailing by three with 2:13 left in the frame.
It was still a two possession game - Mohawk up 50-44 - entering the final period, but an 8-0 run from the visitors over the first 1:52 pushed the game out of reach.
The Bruins scored just 16 second half points, while Mohawk scored 23 in the fourth quarter alone.
Brianna Stewart (12), Sydney Charvis (11), and Theresa Brown (10) were all in double figures for Sheridan.
While second offence was a problem Thursday, the same was not true Friday, as the Double-Blue scored 38 second half points to run away from Conestoga.
Charvis scored nine of her game and career-high 26 points in the fourth quarter alone.
Sheridan trailed 48-44 with 7:34 to play, but closed the game on a 14-4 run - forcing five turnovers and limiting Conestoga 1-7 shooting from the floor.
Stewart was also in double figures with 15 points, while filling up the rest of the stat sheet with seven assists, seven rebounds, and three steals, while Mara Douglas hauled down a team-high 11 boards.
The club returns to their home floor, hosting UTM Wednesday (6pm).
