Men's volleyball clinch playoff berth with weekend sweep

SUDBURY, Ont. - Though they had some struggles in the second half, the Sheridan Bruins men's volleyball team (8-10 OCAA) will be part of the mix when the OCAA post-season begins, qualifying for the playoffs after a pair of wins over Cambrian (3-0) and Boreal (3-1).

Against Cambrian, the Bruins won 25-10, 25-21, 25-22 and had a massive 60-28 advantage in total offence.

Matt Stokes matched his career high with 17 points (12 kills, four blocks, one ace), while Chris Adams (10 kills, two blocks, two aces), and Andre Zopf (12 kills) were also in double figures.

Sheridan closed out the weekend and the regular season with a 25-22, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23 win over Boreal.

Adams scored a team-high 10 points (nine kills, one ace), while Liam Butchereit had a match-high 20 digs - the fifth time this season he's posted at least 20 digs in a match.

The Bruins will await the result of the Mohawk/Conestoga match on Feb. 14 to determine whether they will finish sixth or seventh in the OCAA West.

Blue notes: Butchereit's 238 digs on the season not only breaks Matt Bandy's team record of 195 established in 2013-14, but it is also the second highest single-season dig total since the OCAA began keeping it as an official statistic in 2007-08.
