Men's volleyball bounce back with sweep of Niagara

WELLAND, Ont. - It didn't take the Sheridan Bruins men's volleyball team (3-4 OCAA) long to steady the ship after a tough five-set loss, making quick work of Niagara in a 3-0 win.

"It was nice to get over that hump of late-set jitters," head coach Frank Pento said. "We executed great after 20 and we picked up a big win in a tough gym. Great contributions from the guys on the bench when our starters were struggling. All in all, a great team win, and we'll re-focus and prepare for our final home stand of the year."

While every set was tight, the Double-Blue put together a relatively clean performance - committing a total of 24 errors (14 hitting, nine service, one ball handling) while Niagara had 34 - with wins of 25-23, 25-21, 25-23.

Andre Zopf scored a match-high 13 points (11 kills, two aces) and has hit double figures in all but two matches this season, notching nine against Mohawk and St. Clair.

Liam Butchereit led the Bruins with 13 digs.

They will host Boreal (Dec. 2, 6pm) and Cambrian (Dec. 3, 2pm) next weekend in their final contests of the first half.
