WINDSOR, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's volleyball team (8-7 OCAA) picked up a huge road win, defeating St. Clair 3-1.
"This was our biggest game of the year, and we found a way to get it done even though we had a very poor offensive performance," head coach Frank Pento said. "Our defence kept us alive, and a couple players made some big plays for us when it mattered."
The Bruins came out extremely flat in the first set and the home side ran away with it early, 25-16.
The roles were reversed in the second set as the Bruins seemed to have woken up, and handed St. Clair a loss by the same score.
Sets three and four were much more tightly contested, as the teams traded points late into each set.
Sheridan was able to pull ahead in set three after a Maccauley Ross stuff block, and closed out the set 25-22.
The fourth set saw Chris Adams put up a wall at the net recording 2 stuff blocks, and the Bruins held on for the 25-21.
Justin Kong had a great match for the Bruins, and is among the league leaders in assists, while Liam Butchereit continues his strong defensive play and sits atop the leaderboard in digs.
The Bruins have a few days rest before a tough home match against Mohawk on February 3 (8pm).
"Mohawk is an extremely disciplined team, and always competes," Pento said. "It is going to be a battle, but our boys believe that they can win any match."
