Men's soccer knocked from championship contention in quarter-final loss to Algonquin

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (6-6 OCAA) were eliminated from the OCAA post-season, suffering a 3-0 loss to Algonquin in the quarter-final.

"It just wasn't our day," head coach Andrew Seuradge said. "The deeper your season goes, the more narrow the margin for error. We just missed on a couple of our best scoring chances, and we made a couple of mistakes that Algonquin capitalized on."

Algonquin scored mid-way through the first half and on the second half kickoff, that really drained any momentum the Bruins had.

The final tally came on a late penalty kick.

Sheridan's best two chances both came off set pieces. In the first half, an Emilio Estevez free kick wasn't cleared off the head of an Algonquin defender, where Anthony Wright headed towards goal, but was denied by the crossbar.

In the second half, a Mathew Santos corner kick was mis-hit by Wright on the volley attempt, but Ivica Sunjki flicked on the deflection, only to have Algonquin's keeper make a tremendous lunging save.

The Double-Blue will now drop into the consolation bracket and will take on the hosts from Fleming Friday at 12pm.
