Men's soccer set for quarter-final clash with Algonquin

PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - The gauntlet that is the OCAA post-season will continue for the Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (6-5 OCAA), drawing a quarter-final match-up (Oct. 26, 3pm) with the East Division regular season champions from Algonquin (7-2-1 OCAA).

"It's a tough match-up, but that's always the way it's going to be. If you want to win a championship in our league, you're going to have to prove yourself by going through some great teams," head coach Andrew Seuradge said. "Algonquin runs a great program and they're a consistent threat to win a championship. They're an organized side, sound at the back, and it would take great quality to beat them. I believe in my boys though. If we play our best, we can compete with anyone in the country."

Algonquin scored 27 goals on the year, while allowing only eight. The numbers can be a bit misleading, however.

They lost their first two contests of the season - allowing five goals in the process - before reeling off an eight-game unbeaten streak to close the season. In that stretch, they won seven straight - before a draw in their final contest against Seneca -  and conceded just three times, while keeping the sheet clean on five occasions.

More than half of Algonquin's goals came from two players, as Malek Belhaj led their side with a league-leading 12 goals, while Hansley Malonga chipped in with five.

Goalkeeper Colin Gibson had a league-high five clean sheets, and posted a 7-1 record.
