OAKVILLE, Ont. - They were made to sweat out some tense final minutes, but the Sheridan Bruins men's soccer team (3-1 OCAA) held on for their second straight win, a 3-2 victory over Cambrian.
"I'm happy to pick up three points, but we clearly still have some work to do," head coach Andrew Seuradge said. "We didn't capitalize on enough of the chances we had and I thought we were a little too casual in our own third once we got that lead."
The Bruins got on the board in just the third minute, with Francis Ameyaw swinging a cross into the area off the right wing, that Reshaun Walkes was able to tap home.
Sheridan had a couple more chances to double their advtange, but didn't strike until the 16th minute, when Emilio Estevez connected on a beautiful 19-yard free kick that he bent around the wall and into the top left corner.
After Cambrian pulled one back in the 75th minute on a free kick of their own, the Double-Blue had an immediate reply, with the brotherly Ameyaw connection - Richard to Francis - supplying the final touches.
It proved critical as well, after Cambrian notched a second goal two minutes from time.
With only two days to prepare for a Region of Peel derby on Sept. 26 when the Double-Blue hosts UTM, Seuradge says a key aspect to refining their performance is having the right mental approach.
"It starts with recognizing that we're trying to play a 90-minute game," he said. "If we establish a 90-minute intensity level and workrate, some of those things start to fall into place."
