Despite sluggish second half, men's rugby holds off Mohawk

HAMILTON, Ont. - It didn't quite have all the hallmarks of a complete 80-minute performance, but the Sheridan Bruins men's rugby team (2-0 OCAA) had done enough in the opening 40 minutes to hold off Mohawk 38-24.

On the strength of tries from Jeffrey Fallows, Nick Galipo, Nathanael Penny, and Ajaypaul Sahota, the Double Blue led 26-0 at the interval. Brandon Roberts punched one in early in the second half to run the margin to 31-0, but the Bruins were out-scored 24-7 the rest of the way.

Tristian Hylton-Hastings scored the sixth and final try for Sheridan, while Neil Judge and Fallows rounded out the Bruin scoring with converts.

The Bruins have four games remaining, but against only two opponents with home-and-home contests against Seneca and Georgian on the slate. Seneca will visit during Sheridan Homecoming on Sept. 29, coming off a hard-fought 29-15 defeat to Georgian. They handled Mohawk 58-0 in their season opener on Sept. 15.

Sheridan will play road legs against Georgian on Oct. 4 and Seneca on Oct. 11, before wrapping the regular season at home with the Battle of the Bears on Oct. 20.
